Larry Dale Floyd
Larry Dale Floyd is a Republican former constable for Denton County, Texas.
In July of 2005, Texas Republican Constable Larry Dale Floyd drove to Fremont County, Colorado to meet up with a woman he had met online. In recorded conversations with the woman, Floyd had expressed interest in sexual relations with her 8-year-old daughter, as well as two of her friend’s children, aged three years and 16 months.
When he arrived at the rendezvous spot, Floyd was immediately arrested. The woman did not exist and was part of an undercover operation by the Colorado police to apprehend pedophiles. He was jailed on $100,000 bail.
After his arrest, law enforcement in Texas received a warrant to search Larry Dale Floyd’s residence, where they found two ZIP disks and a computer containing over 60 pieces of child sexual abuse material.
In September, a judge removed him from his position as Constable before he went to trial.
During his 2006 trial, his lawyer unsuccessfully attempted to argue that Republican Constable Larry Dale Floyd was acting in an undercover capacity when he attempted to solicit children as young as 16 months for sex. During the trial, it was also revealed that Floyd had been the subject of similar child sex allegations in the past that went uninvestigated. A teenage niece claimed that he entered the bathroom while she was showering and asked if he could “kiss and touch her,” and a stepdaughter claimed that Larry Dale Floyd fondled her in bed when she was 8 or 9 years old. Finally, a jail cellmate claimed that Floyd would become sexually excited when discussing the children of other inmates.
In November of 2006, as part of a deal with prosecutors, Floyd pled guilty to three charges of enticement of a child in exchange for having the other charges dropped. The charge carried the possibility of an “indeterminant sentence,” which requires supervision for life even after parole.
In January of 2007, Larry Dale Floyd was sentenced to concurrent prison sentences of six years to life. While in prison, he tried multiple times to have his sentence shortened, commuted and nullified, most notably claiming that his conviction was invalid because he was not informed that he would be required to participate in sex offender treatment.
